Western was
the only Mid-Indiana Conference team to survive sectional play. The Panthers
advanced to the regional level of competition in impressive fashion. They won
the Tipton Sectional by outscoring opposition by a combined 21-0.
Western
first took out Tri-Central by a count of 10-0 and then deflated host Tipton
even worse. They shut out the Blue Devils 11-0. The victory sends the Panthers
to West Lafayette to play the host Red Devils in the second opening round game.
Elsewhere in the Mid-Indiana, Northwestern fell
in opening round action at Logansport, falling 4-0 to Twin Lakes. Eastern fell
11-1 at kokum to eventual champion Marion. The most disheartening loss in the
conference was delivered to Maconaquah. The Braves lost to North Miami in the
Caston Sectional 5-4 on penalty k
